025 AI in Podcasting is it Friend or Foe? 🤖

Is AI taking over podcasting? Not quite, but it is making waves! This episode dives into how AI tools, like Google Notebook LM and Eleven Labs, can help podcasters streamline their workflow while still keeping the essential human touch. Plus, we talk about the VIC Podcasters community and why finding your podcasting community is more important than ever.

AI is becoming a useful tool in podcasting, helping with everything from generating titles to automating certain tasks. However, human creativity is irreplaceable—AI may suggest what works, but it takes a podcaster’s unique voice and storytelling skills to make content engaging.

The VIC Podcasters community stands out as a valuable resource, offering education, networking, and support to podcasters at all levels. Whether you’re a beginner or a seasoned podcaster, finding your people can make the journey more enjoyable and sustainable.

If you’ve been feeling isolated in your podcasting efforts, now is the time to seek out a community. Join VIC Podcasters to connect with fellow creators, share ideas, and grow your show with the help of a supportive network. Need guidance? Work with Zoë Wood at Video Confidence Coach to take your podcast to the next level!

TIME FOR A QUICK QUIZ 🤓

What’s one way AI can help podcasters?

  • A) Engaging with listeners

  • B) Generating episode ideas

  • C) Editing audio

  • Answer: B) Generating episode ideas. AI can help by suggesting episode titles and key topics but these should be an aid, not a sole tool in your podcasting tool kit. Not everything is a hammer.

What's your gut reaction to hearing an AI-generated voice? Fascination? Mild horror?

An urge to throw your phone into the sea? Well, hold on to that thought.

    [Speaker 3] (0:36 - 0:43)

and our community Q&A, because podcasting doesn't have to be a solo gig. VIC Podcasters is proudly produced on Wadawurrung land.

    [Speaker 2] (0:46 - 2:01)

Your usual host, Zoe Wood of the Video Confidence Coach, is currently out of action with a fever. Nothing dramatic, just the classic should not have gone outside with people and germs situation. So, in the meantime, I, Dorothy, an AI voice, am stepping in.

Yes, I'm fully digital. And yes, we'd love to know what you think about this little experiment. You can share your thoughts over in the VIC Podcasters email newsletter, Facebook or LinkedIn groups.

In this episode, we're diving into a snippet of a Google Notebook LM conversation about VIC Podcasters and how AI tools can help generate podcast episodes. Of course, everything is still vetted and edited by humans. So don't worry, no rogue robots hallucinations here.

But if AI hosted episodes aren't your thing, we get it. Feel free to check out the backlog while Zoe recovers. She'll be back next week, fully human and fever free, hopefully, to chat about how to get more audience feedback and, importantly, how to handle a lot of it.

By the way, I, Dorothy, was created with Eleven Labs and this conversation crafted with Google Notebook LM.

    [Speaker 3] (2:04 - 2:22)

VIC Podcasters, I'm pausing your podcasting experience to let you know that I have my own podcast, the Unboring Your Brand podcast. So if you have a personal brand or you are a small business owner who wants to leverage their personal brand without the boring stuff, follow me on Unboring Your Brand podcast. [Speaker 1] (2:22 - 5:16)

But before we get too deep into VIC Podcasters, let's back up a bit. Okay. We found this study by the Australian ABC.

They used AI to try and generate podcast titles and descriptions. Yeah. What's so interesting about it isn't that the AI was necessarily better than humans, but that it approached the task so differently.

Yeah. Okay. It pointed out specific keywords and phrases.

Right. That are proven to be effective, which human podcasters can definitely learn from. Yeah.

It's like the AI is giving us the sneak peek into what works. Right. But it still takes a human to turn it all into something catchy.

Yeah. You need that human touch. Like a title or description.

Exactly. And that human element is something VIC Podcasters really emphasises. Their own documents make it really clear that their goal is all about connecting.

Okay. And supporting podcasters, whatever level they're at. That's great.

Because I think a lot of people think these groups are just for beginners. So for someone like me, who's been podcasting for a while now, what's the appeal of a group like VIC Podcasters? Well, they have this great mix of resources and community building.

One thing that stood out to me was their weekly podcast. It's only five minutes long, but it's packed with tips, updates on events happening around here, even grant alerts. Oh, wow.

For busy podcasters, that quick format is a lifesaver. Yeah. It's like a quick shot of podcasting espresso.

Exactly. But what about the community part? What does that actually look like?

Well, they've got a strong online presence. Facebook, LinkedIn, a mailing list to keep everyone updated. It's not just about the practical stuff.

It's about being part of a group of people who share your passion and understand the ups and downs of podcasting. It's like finding your tribe. Yeah.

Your people. And that can be so powerful, no matter what you do. But I think it's especially important in something like podcasting, which can often feel pretty lonely.

I agree. You spend hours by yourself recording, editing, promoting. Having that community to connect with can make all the difference.

So even if you're not in Victoria, the takeaway is to find those communities wherever you are. And before we wrap up, I want to leave our listeners with one last thought. I think the most important thing we've learned is to seek out those connections.

Whether you're a new podcaster looking for guidance and support or a dedicated listener wanting to share your love of podcasts with others. Podcasting is such a lively and ever-changing world. And these communities play a crucial role in shaping its future.

So if you're feeling alone on your podcasting journey or you just want to connect with other podcast lovers, take a chance and join a community. You might be surprised by the people you meet, the things you learn and the inspiration you find. Yeah.

And who knows, you might even find your new favourite podcast or even become the creator of a podcast that captivates the world.

    [Speaker 3] (5:20 - 5:53)

That's it for this week's episode. Tune in next week for more tips, updates and the occasional pun. Good ideas, Buzzing?

Excellent. Head to the show notes in this episode for details that you'll need to dive deeper into Victoria's podcasting community. Vic podcasters would like to acknowledge and pay our respects to the Wadawurrung people of the Kulin Nation, the traditional custodians on the land on which we work, live and play.

We pay our respects to our elders past and present. We stand with the traditional custodians in these lands in working towards a more equal future. Always was, always will be Aboriginal land.

And hey, don't forget, podcasting is better with mates.
